Much Ado About Nothing is Shakespeare at his most playful and clever. Beatrice and Benedick are two sharp-tongued sparring partners who claim to despise each other — while everyone around them can see exactly what's really going on. Add a scheming villain, a hilariously incompetent police force, and a wedding that nearly goes very wrong, and you've got one of the most entertaining comedies ever written.
Shakespeare's comedies are full of wit, wordplay, and human truth — but much of that wit can get lost in translation for modern readers. Middle schoolers deserve to experience the sharp humor and clever plotting of Much Ado firsthand, not just read about it in a summary.
